About Us

Founded in 2002 by the talented duo Irinka and Todor Gotchevi, the Folk Dance Ensemble Horo in Chicago is a beacon of Bulgarian cultural heritage in the United States. Irinka, a graduate of the State Choreographic School in Sofia and the Academy of Music and Dance Art in Plovdiv, along with Todor, have dedicated their lives to preserving and promoting Bulgarian folklore. Their journey began in Bulgaria, where Irinka was a distinguished dancer and choreographer in Ensemble Sliven, and continued in Chicago, where they sought to create a vibrant community around Bulgarian dance and music.

Ensemble Horo has grown significantly over the years, starting with a small group at the Bulgarian Orthodox Church St. Ivan Rilski and later moving to the Irish Center in Chicago. Their first concert in 2005 marked the beginning of a series of successful performances, showcasing the richness and diversity of Bulgarian folklore through intricate dances and colorful traditional costumes. Each performance is a testament to their commitment to authenticity and artistic excellence, drawing from the deep roots of Bulgarian folk traditions.
